Basil

Basil gives off a scent without having to crush its leaves first, so you can grow it in pots and leave them in your back yard to ward off mosquitoes. To keep them away from your body, rub a handful of crushed basil leaves on your skin.

Any variety of basil can repel mosquitoes. But it is advisable to use lemon basil, cinnamon basil or Peruvian basil because they give off the strongest scents.

 Oatmeal

Did you know that a remedy for an uncomfortable mosquito bite might be sitting in your kitchen counter?

Make an oatmeal paste by mixing equal amounts of oatmeal and water in a bowl to create a paste-like substance. Spoon some paste onto a washcloth and hold it-paste-side down-on irritated skin for about ten minutes then rinse the area.

 Garlic

Garlic has a very pungent odour, which many people don’t like. Mosquitoes also happen to dislike its smell. Crush a few cloves of garlic and boil in water for some time. Pour this homemade mosquito repellent into a spray bottle and squirt it around the room.

 Honey

Honey has many anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. This sweet substance is a common choice among home remedy enthusiasts. It has been renowned for its medicinal properties and ability to treat various ailments and bites for hundreds of years. A small drop on an itchy bite must just give you the relief you need.

 

Lemon balm

Lemon balm also great at keeping mosquitoes at bay, because its leaves contain large amounts of citronella compounds. The citronella plant is commonly used in commercial mosquito repellents and there is up to 38% citronella  content in some varieties of lemon balm. You can grow lemon balm in your garden and allow it  to proliferate leaving less room for mosquitoes to thrive. To keep mosquitoes t bay, you can also rub crushed lemon balm leaves on your skin.
