Barley- keeps kidneys healthy
Those with diabetes invariably land up with kidney problems, for some dialysis is also needed. Dialysis only prolong life at our exorbitant money going down the drain, as slowly, one dies. I've seen my maternal uncle having dialysis first once a day on alternate days, then daily once, then twice daily, then thrice, then ultimately admitted to the hospital, which drains one's bank balance and doesn't help saving a life. Hence, when dialysis was suggested for my mother, I refused. The nephrologist tried to scare me saying if no dialysis, my mother will live only for 6 months. I said fine, at least she doesn't have to undergo the torture of dialysis. He even sacred me that my mother may go into coma. But God was kind, in exactly 6 months she dies peacefully at home with all her children and husband around taking care of her, along with my children, who were close to my her. MY mother's biggest regret must have been not seeing her grand-daughter ( my daughter) graduate as a Dr.
Sad at that time, I didn't know about this simple remedy, which I came to know few months ago.
My husband being a long term diabetic, with too many drugs given to him, lead to his kidneys partially functioning. His nephrologist told him bluntly, only thing one can do is stop kidneys getting worse by controlling salt intake, drinking water as prescribed for him and Dr. can't improve his kidneys anyway.
I heard about barley, to wash and soak 3 tbsp of barley in a glass of water, strain and drink that water early morning on empty stomach. As there was restriction in his water intake, I soaked 3 teaspoons full of barley, washed and soaked in about 75 ml water overnight, in the morning gave my husband the drained water. At times, I used the strained barley for making kanji along with oats and ragi / finger millet. The last kidney function test showed all parameters normal !
INGREDIENTS
barley 3 tablespoon
water 1 glass
METHOD
wash and soak barley in water overnight, keep it covered.
In the morning, strain the water and drink on empty stomach daily.
This will keep your kidneys in control and also your blood sugar levels.
